How to file taxes for the first time.

1. Gather your tax documents.
Your first-time filer checklist might include:

  • T4 (employment income).

  • T4A (scholarships, grants, gig work).

  • T5 (investment income).

  • T2202 (tuition).

  • RL slips if you lived/worked in Québec.

  • Receipts for medical expenses, donations, transit, moving (if eligible).

Not sure if something matters? Bring it anyway – we’ll help you sort through it.

2. Set up or access CRA My Account.

It’s optional, but helpful. You’ll be able to see your slips, refund status, and benefit information all in one place. If you’re not sure how to get started, read our step‑by‑step guide on registering or signing in to CRA My Account.
