The Opportunity:

The Business Development Manager reports to the Director of Marketing and is responsible for driving business growth by focusing on B2B partnerships for the tax software and retail business. 

The Business Development Manager’s main focus is to identify potential B&B partnerships that can mutually benefit both H&R Block and the partnering organizations by leveraging H&R Block's tax software and retail services, developing customized solutions for these organizations, providing them with valuable tax services and benefits for their employees. This involves regular communication with partners, identifying opportunities for upselling and cross-selling, and providing exceptional customer service. 

By successfully establishing partnerships with reputable organizations, this role enhance the H&R Block’s reputation and credibility in the market and helps the company to achieve its strategic objectives, such as market expansion, revenue growth, and increased market share.

This position is based in Calgary and offers a hybrid work schedule, with 3 days per week in-office.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Utilize existing networks and conduct independent research to identify and develop new business opportunities, creating a pipeline for lead management and expanding the range of offerings for our customers.

  • Identify and pursue sales opportunities aligned with the objectives outlined in the Annual Sales & Marketing Plan.

  • Proactively explore potential areas for collaboration with partners, developing proposals and effectively upselling these new collaboration opportunities.

  • Exhibit strong objection management skills, stay informed about competitors, influence stakeholders, and effectively communicate and showcase the value of H&R Block's services and products.

  • Provide regular reports to internal stakeholders on partner status, including updates on product integrations, engagement with H&R Block products, and key revenue metrics driven by partnerships.

  • Maintain a monthly dashboard and metrics to measure the success of partnerships.

  • Demonstrate a high level of sales activity and track record in identifying, managing, and closing key account opportunities.

  • Support and guide District Managers who serve as a seasonal sales team.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Commerce and 3-5 years B2B experience as a Business Development Manager or a combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated success in driving business growth, securing partnerships, and achieving revenue targets.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the retail industry.

  • Significant experience in retail and/or customer service industries. 

  • Ability to analyze market trends, identify new opportunities, and develop effective business development strategies.

  • Proven ability to effectively sell and negotiate with stakeholders.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Exhibit an empathetic approach and a strong ability to comprehend clients' perspectives.

  • Proven selling and negotiation skills.

  • Exceptional group presentation skills and fluency with MS PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
