The Opportunity:

The Senior Tax Programmer reports to the Manager, Tax Development and is responsible for researching and implementing tax legislation changes, developing customer-oriented features, and ensuring government tax software certification compliance.

The Senior Tax Programmer stays updated on the latest tax legislation changes and analyzes their impact on the software. They collaborate with the team to implement these changes effectively, ensuring accurate calculations and tax form generation.

The Senior Tax Programmer works closely with user-experience designers, tax experts, and other stakeholders to understand customer needs and translates them into software features ensuring intuitive user experience and enhancing the functionality to meet customer expectations.

The Senior Tax Programmer is also responsible for ensuring that the tax software meets the certification requirements set by government authorities. This includes conducting thorough testing and documentation to demonstrate compliance and addressing any issues that may arise during the certification process.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Implements tax legislation changes.
  • Develops customer-oriented features.
  • Ensures government tax software certification compliance.
  • Collaborates with user-experience designers, tax experts, and stakeholders.
  • Conducts thorough testing and documentation for certification.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams for successful software development.
  • Provides coaching and expertise in tax & java programming.
  • Ensures accurate calculations and tax form generation.
  • Enhances software functionality and user experience.
  • Addresses any issues during the certification process.
  • Manages government certification processes with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Revenu Québec (RQ).
  • Documents and updates processes and procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance to the tax programming team.

 

Key Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or Business Technology and 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Course and/or 5 years of experience with tax compliance, regulatory, and certification processes definite assets.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Office Suite skills.
  • Experience working on financial software integrations.
  • Java Development experience.
  • Strong understanding of tax laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Good knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or SQL is a strong asset.
  • Tax software expertise.
  • Ability to analyze and manipulate large amounts of data to ensure accurate tax calculations and reporting.
  • Ability to solve complex tax-related issues, debugging code, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Solid understanding of tax compliance requirements and being able to mitigate risks associated with tax processes and systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. French communication skills an asset.
